4:30 TALK:  William Kronholm, Swarthmore College

                           “Homological Sensor Networks”

Abstract: In this expository talk, we will discuss the recent applications of algebraic topology

to analysis of sensor networks. It is perhaps surprising that simple communication data from

sensor networks can answer questions about blanket coverage of the network over a domain

and pursuit/evasion problems. In each case, there is a homological criterion which is sufficient

to detect holes in the sensor network. We will see how to compute these homological criteria

from the Rips complex associated to the sensor network. I will also relate how I plan to use

these results in a math/art project with I am pursuing with my colleague Aaron Bocanegra (Art

                           Institute of California, L.A.).
