TRIANGLE GEOMETRY/TOPOLOGY SEMINAR

      SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT

DATE:               Friday, December 3, 2004

LOCATION:     Hempfield High School, Room 213 (directions attached)

followed by dinner at a place to be determined.

4:30 TALK:       Ron Umble, Millersville University

"Drinfeld Algebras as Deformations of Hopf Algebras"

ABSTRACT:     A Drinfeld algebra is a Hopf algebra in every respect except that its coalgebra

structure is not strict, but coassociative up to conjugation.  This talk applies the

deformation theory of Gerstenhaber and Schack to obtain Drinfeld algebras as

deformations of Hopf algebras.  If time permits, we will apply these techniques

to obtain Drinfeld’s quantum versions of universal enveloping algebras.

     EVERYONE WELCOME
