TRIANGLE GEOMETRY/TOPOLOGY SEMINAR

      FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

DATE:               Friday, October 1, 2004

LOCATION:     Hempfield High School, Room 213 (directions attached)

followed by dinner at “Symposium,” 125 S. Centerville Road, Lancaster.

4:30 TALK:       Iwan Praton, Franklin and Marshall College

"From Quantum Groups to Quantum Dixmier Algebras "

ABSTRACT:     I'll try to explain how quantum groups are similar to enveloping algebras of

semisimple Lie algebras and how they are different. Unfortunately this is a

big subject; I'll concentrate on those aspects that I understand, mostly having

to do with primitive ideals and their connection with orbits on the dual of the

Lie algebra. Dixmier algebras are helpful in understanding this connection.

The quantum version of Dixmier algebras might serve the same purpose. I'll

try to describe the work that has been done on this subject.  Warning: there

is a lot of background to cover, so we might not get there.

     EVERYONE WELCOME

PLEASE FORWARD THIS ANNOUNCEMENT TO ANYONE INTERESTED
